What is the Candid Yak?

The Candid Yak is a reading series that is organized by the students enrolled in the George Mason University's Masters in the Fine Arts in Creative Writing. Its intent is to showcase the best and brightest creative spoken work of the GMU community. The Candid Yak is a student run organization, sponsored in part by the Department of English. Readings are open to the entire GMU community and are held on a bi-monthly basis. To have your work showcased by the Candid Yak you must be a student enrolled at George Mason University or invited by the Caretakers of the Yak to do so. While preference is given to MFA students, both MA and BA students are welcome read. After every Yak there is an open mic that is held immediately afterwards, where anyone can share their creative work

The Candid Yak would like to welcome GMU's newest MFA faculty
