The Golden Yak Awards recognize the best
creative work in a spoken form each semester of the school year.
There is one poet, one fiction writer and one non-fiction writer
selected on a semester basis. Every Yakker who reads throughout
the course of the term is eligible for the recognition. Yakkers
are judged on the quality of writing, their speaking voice, ability
to play to the crowd, enthusiasm and general “Yakkerness”.
The Caretakers of the Yak put forth their nominations and then must
come to unanimous support of one Yakker in each genre.
Each writer is interviewed about their work
and given a permanent place on the Candid Yak's website for the
material that they read. In the future we hope to record or video
tape an excerpt of these golden performances for the website.
